DANA HONING, CLINICAL INTERN
My name is Dana Honing, and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling practicum student completing my graduate training at Northern Arizona University. I was drawn to counseling by a deep belief in people’s innate capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change, especially when they feel truly heard and understood. I take an eclectic, person-centered, and holistic approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, mindfulness, and somatic-informed practices that support mind–body awareness. I support children ages five and up, adolescents, and adults, with a special interest in postpartum depression and anxiety, as well as anxiety and depression across the lifespan.
Prior to graduate training, I worked in behavioral health case management and coaching with high-risk youth and their families. That experience, along with my training, informs my belief that therapy is a space to gently peel back layers, deepen self-understanding, and reconnect with your core self in ways that feel authentic and empowering. I recognize that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, and my hope is to offer a safe space where you feel supported in slowing down, exploring your experiences, and moving toward growth in a way that feels authentic to you.
